Writers Unleashed!

And so they were at a wonderful writers festival at Tradies in Gymea, South Sydney, organised by Julianne Miles-Brown and her keen volunteers. Presenters included Deb Abela and Gabrielle Lord who both gave a fascinating talk on researching and writing their novels, while the ‘mystery pumpkin’ challenge seemed to go down particularly well at my own presentation on finding ideas and turning them into stories.  A highlight for me was catching up with the fabulous Serene Conneeley (author of the amazing Seven Sacred Sites and the beautiful Mists trilogy pictured left) along with her partner Juz, as well as seeing other writing friends and meeting authors just starting out on their own writing journey. And as always, I enjoyed the opportunity to talk about how I went about researching the ideas behind some of my novels and the strategies I used to develop them into stories.  And I’m now looking forward to some school visits this week, celebrating Children’s Book Week and the theme ‘Escape to Everywhere.’

  1. Hi Flick! It was so wonderful to catch up, and we both loved your session (complete with pumpkin mystery!). I’m so excited for you with the Ghost Boy movie too – can’t wait to see it!

  2. Thanks so much, Serene. Are you writing the pumpkin story yet???
