QS autoclavesIt was such a pleasure to meet secondary teachers/librarians  from the Diocese of Broken Bay at St Leo’s in Wahroonga earlier this week, and my thanks to Bronwyn Sandeman for inviting me along as guest speaker. I gave the group various writing tips for students while talking about how they inspired some of my own novels, but the main focus was on Ghost Boy and its uses in the high school curriculum, speaking as it does of a boy’s discovery of himself and his family, of immigration and the early treatment of disease in the mid-19th century, of friendship and courage – and also the true meaning of ‘treasure’ in this context! I also handed out info on the special Ghost Boy tour up at the Quarantine Station (at North Head, Manly) where part of my book is set, as students and teachers are able to go on a special Ghost Boy tour of the site while the studying the novel.  The teachers’ interest in Ghost Boy, the value they place on it and their evident enjoyment of my story, was heart-warming.  My thanks to all of you for your interest, and for your hospitality. ghost boy cover
