So many good things happening right now…

… it’s hard to keep count! I spent a lovely morning yesterday with students from Mackillop Catholic College Warnervale up at the Quarantine Station as we followed in the footsteps of the characters in my novel Ghost Boy while at the same time students learned something of the history of the QS, and its dark past of disease, misery and death. The students were particularly interested in the ‘new-fangled’ notion of showers as they inspected the creepy shower block, and also the process of steam cleaning everything in the autoclaves (pictured) which not only cleansed garments but also wrecked them as so many of them were made of silk, wool and natural fibres! My thanks to teacher Bronwyn Sandeman for organising the tour, and guide Julie Regalado who made it all so interesting.

Finally, I was really chuffed to receive the latest copy of Historical Books Review (published by the HIstorical Novels Society based in the USA) and see my interview with Lisa Storrs titled ‘Being on the Ground: Felicity Pulman’s novels’ in which I discuss the problems faced by Australian writers of medieval fiction and the ‘tyranny of distance’ I had to overcome to write the Janna Mysteries, now republished as The Janna Chronicles.  I’ll be posting more details over the next few days, so watch this space!!
