If you love reading and/or writing historical fiction, there’s still time to book your ticket for the upcoming Historical Novels Society of Australasia conference at Swinburne University in Melbourne next weekend, from Friday night to Sunday 8-10th September. You’ll find out all you ever wanted to know about researching and writing great historical fiction from such luminaries as Kate Forsythe and her sister, popular children’s author Belinda Murrell, along with Kerry Greenwood of Phryne Fisher fame and crime writer Sulari Gentil, internationally renown author and publisher Sophie Masson, and – if you like your history with the spice of romance – Isolde Martyn, who will also be hosting a workshop with Anne Gracie. A host of other well-known authors, publishers and academics will also be there to present panel discussions, workshops, and even writing appraisals, while the academic programme covers the know-how behind writing history including the business of writing. And do look out also for Dr Gillian Polack’s research and writing masterclasses. There’ll be a chance to meet and greet over tea breaks and lunch, and also at our fabulous opening night cocktail party on Friday as well as dinner on Saturday night.  For more details about the programme and booking, please go to www.hnsa.org.au – and I look forward to seeing you there!
